Faith at Home “Extreme Family Makeover” Parenting Seminar Friday, January 29th 7:00 – 9:00pm Saint James Church in the Ministry Center REGISTRATION for "Extreme Family Makeover" Parenting Seminar Jeff Hoyle with Focus on the Family and Rev Mark Holmen of Faith@HOME will be leading us through a parent mini-conference, Friday, January 29th from 7:00 – 9:00 pm, right here at Saint James. This is a free event for all parents in our community. We do ask that you register for this event either by calling the office or on our webpage. We have been speaking Faith@HOME for some time now and now have an incredible opportunity to hear, first hand, from the two ministries that have revolutionized the family. Come and hear Pastor Mark and Jeff share the many tools and resources that are available to you and how to reclaim your homes as a place where faith is nurtured every day. Child care may be available for infants through pre-k age children during this event. Please let us know if you need childcare when you register. We are unable to provide care for children on a walk-in basis. This seminar will inspire, motivate and equip parents to re-establish the home as the primary place where faith is nurtured. Come ready to gain lots of practical ideas you can begin implementing immediately to bring faith practices into your home life. During this conference, parents will experience these four steps: Step 1 – Facing Our Faith@Home Condition (30 minutes) • Did you realize that less than 10% of Christian households pray (other than at mealtime), read the Bible, do devotions or participate in any type of worship at home? • What does this mean? Where does this lead? What happens when faith is not being lived out or talked about in the home? Step 2 – Creating A Faith@Home Vision/Plan (30 minutes) • We have retirement plans, educational plans and vacation plans yet do we have a plan for how to grow spiritually as a family? • Let’s learn how to build a spiritual growth plan. Step 3 – Building A Unique Faith@Home Lifestyle (30 minutes) • Every family is unique and there are many ways to live out your faith at home. • Let’s learn ways to bring faith back into the center of our daily lives. Step 4 – Welcoming Faith@Home Partners (30 minutes) • It’s not easy being a Christian or Christian household. • Who can you invite to help you stay the course and keep growing in your faith walk? Discipleship and Faith At Home Seminar ~ January 30, 2010 ~ 9am - 3:30pm Recently I (Arthur Jenkins) was asked how as a Sr. Pastor I could spend my time with Directors of Christian Education learning of and promoting the faith at home methodology of Christian faith transformation? Didn’t I have more pressing priorities with which to concern myself? It was their thought that this issue of discipleship was more to be in the hands of the directors of Christian education. My response was that there is not a more important issue than this. That my job, my call, my passion from the Lord is lives that are being healed, redeemed, set free and transformed by a growing and intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. I don’t do church to grow the club. I shepherd peoples that they might experience the life that Jesus Christ purchased for them with His own blood. The faith at home methodology of Christian life transformation is Biblically based. It is God’s created order in Genesis 1:28, Deuteronomy, chapter 6, celebrated in Psalm 78 and used by Jesus with His disciples. The difficulty is, it is a reversal of the paradigm of Christian education under which we were all nurtured. We have all been reared in “age segregated” education. We have been trained to design our buildings, our programs, and our pastors to encourage “church centered” discipleship and now we’re saying, “wait, stop, reverse it all.” You’ve got to be kidding? It feels like an upheaval in our church lives, because it is. It can’t be a new program. It must be a revival. I have been so touched by God’s heart for this revival of discipleship that I am willing to risk my ministry and my life for it. To every Mom and Dad I encourage you to come to the Family Extreme Makeover, Friday night, January 29th at Saint James, James Island. This is a two – three hour intensive training of practical, easy to implement models and strategies that will make your home the center of faith transformation, not just for your children, but for you all.
