A STATEMENT BY THE PEOPLE OF
SAINT JAMES CHURCH (EPISCOPAL)
JAMES ISLAND
Recent events
We, the people of Saint James Episcopal Church, disassociate ourselves from those actions, which are contrary to Holy Scripture, of the 76th General Convention of the Episcopal Church held in July 2009.
We affirm the Lordship of Jesus Christ and the authority of the Holy Scriptures (Old and New Testaments). We will continue to be faithful to the Scriptures and to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ who heals the sick, restores sight to the blind, and raises those dead in their trespasses and sins to the new life of grace— a Gospel that we remain convinced still has the power to do these things today!
We believe:
- That Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior of all who receive Him by Faith.
- That the Scriptures, the Gospel; the Apostolic Church; and the early Church Fathers remain the foundation of Christian (Anglican) faith and worship;
-That God has called us to a new focus on the tenets of the faith: the Lordship of Jesus Christ, the sufficiency of Holy Scripture for Salvation, and Salvation by Grace received through Faith,
-That by Grace received through faith and expressed by Baptism, in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, a person is made one with Christ and received into the fellowship of the Church, and
-That, in worship and the celebration of the Holy Communion, the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ are recalled through the proclamation of the Word and the celebration of the sacrament.
With Open Arms
The doors of our church are open to everyone! We have all sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. The church is a hospital for sinners and those in need, of whom we are chief. Therefore:
To all who are spiritually weary and seek rest;
To all who mourn and long for comfort;
To all who struggle and desire victory;
To all who sin and need a Savior;
To all who are strangers and want fellowship;
To all who hunger and thirst after righteousness; and
To whoever will come–this church opens wide her doors
and offers her welcome in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
